Our Facilities

Our spacious and beautiful environment provides an atmosphere where children can feel comfortable to explore, play and learn. The playroom and playground are designed to support and promote our early childhood philosophy and program.

Pope Road Kindergarten is located at 46 Pope Road, Blackburn, on council owned property.  Our facility consists of one building, one large playground and a courtyard. The main entrance is through a gate at the end of the pathway of the park, that adjoins our playground.

Playground

The outdoor play space provides for both quiet and active play experiences that are safe and inviting. The large open spaces are wonderful areas for climbing, running, balancing, wonder, exploring and more. There are three undercover areas for all weather conditions and our wooden stage offers open ended play opportunities, regularly becoming a space for a puppet show, a concert for dancers and performers, a dinosaur cave or an elevated area to build upon with the outdoor blocks, for example. Our sand and mud pits invite adventure for those who like to dig, play with water and explore with natural materials. Grass areas are perfect for ball games, building cubbies on and enjoying a picnic. The playground at ‘Pope Road’ continues to evolve.

Children’s Projects

Many of our learning experiences include collaborative project work through the exploration of enquiries. Each year, children in the Four Year Old Group are invited to work on a major project reflecting a shared interest and enquiry. This collaborative project, each year, remains at the kindergarten as a memory and celebration of that group’s year together. Projects add to the history of the kindergarten and the children enjoy revisiting these work.

Light

We have many large windows allowing natural light to penetrate every area within the playroom: whilst inside, the children can see and enjoy our garden and observe the world outside. Working with light is part of many of our experiences and learning.

Courtyard

The courtyard provides us an attractive and welcoming central meeting place for children, staff and families. This is an inviting place to play, share story time and discussions as well as sharing morning tea or lunch. Our courtyard acts as an extension of our playroom without necessarily accessing the larger playground.
